What is Ignite Culture Guelph?

Ignite Culture: Guelph is an ‘Ignite’ event with a twist. The presentation rules are standard: each speaker will be given 5 minutes to present a PowerPoint, with each presentation limited to 20 slides that change automatically every 15 seconds. But unlike other Ignite events, all of the participants will be speaking about their ideas on culture.

What is Culture?

Culture  (noun): The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.

Expanding upon this definition of culture to include our collective experiences of ethnicity, location, cultural background, the arts, craft, DIY, music, poetry and any and all experiences of Guelph as a cultural community, we aim to empower community members to share these stories with one another.

What Kind of Stories?

Most cultural assets such as artists, galleries, studios, museums, and heritage homes are easy to locate on a map, but intangible stories are much more difficult to identify and often lack a platform to be shared. It is these personal perspectives that add texture, colour and depth to our lives, weaving a rich cultural fabric. Ignite Culture: Guelph aims to capture and share these intangible stories surrounding culture, creativity, diversity and how they apply to place. These unique experiences are valuable tools and help us define ourselves both as individuals and as a community, and empower people to have a voice in sharing their personal chronicles.

Empowerment through Speech

Ignite Culture: Guelph aims to capture and share these intangible stories surrounding culture, creativity, diversity and place by empowering speakers from the community to share their personal experiences of culture.
